Chapter 67
<The Chaser> was a film with relatively few characters.
As actor casting accounts for a large portion of a movie’s production cost it should be seen as having a big advantage in that regard.
This means that the money used to cast actors can be redirected elsewhere.
However from an actor’s perspective the lack of characters was both painful and a good thing.
This is because the scene can be focused as much as possible on a small number of people which increases the amount of filming.
“Thank you for your hard work Mina.”
“thank you!!”
Kang Min-ah who plays Detective Seo Kwang-il’s younger sister in <The Chaser> breathed a sigh of relief.
Because she was still a rookie and young she was often nervous in many ways.
She said ‘I have to work hard and not be a nuisance to the company.’
Kang Min-ah belongs to Lauren Company.
She was an agency affiliated with District 3 and was the agency that actively promoted Kang Min-ah to appear in this movie.
She barely got her supporting role but since she was playing the younger sister of the lead character Detective Seo Gwang-il her face was often shown in one way or another.
This was a huge improvement compared to her previous three drama appearances as an extra.
‘I don’t know what face I’m making when I just point at the camera.’
Still I felt like it ended well without her NG being too much.
Everyone praised Minah saying she was doing well at this level.
She said ‘There is such a thing as talent.’
Kang Min-ah glanced at the girl sitting quietly.
She is two years younger than me.
I was told that she was now seventeen but the way she dressed up made her look like she was around twenty.
She sat quietly with her eyes closed and her posture was very upright.
To anyone who sees her she looks like a lady from a noble family.
She had the appearance of a flower but Kang Min-ah who saw her acting could not bear to call Seo-yeon a flower.
Filming that took place today.
S# 37.
The scene where Han Ye-hwa and Cha Seo-ah meet in an alley.
It was such an important scene where she chases her knocks her out and kidnaps her.
Normally she would have killed Yehwa on the spot but instead of killing her he dragged her to her own home.
There where her parents were murdered and she was left alone.
What did Kang Min-ah think when she saw that scene?
‘Isn’t it you Cha Seo-ah?’
Her body trembled to the point where she had such doubts.
Especially gaze.
It felt as if she was not seeing a human but something disguised as a human.
Is it really acting?
She had such doubts.
A strange feeling of discomfort welling up in my heart.
I could feel that level of her power in this scene.
It seems like it was just for ‘show’ so far.
Her feelings of inferiority and jealousy toward one example of her were clearly visible on that unpleasant face.
Her performance was one that Kang Min-ah could not even dare to imitate.
‘still.’
Shin Seong-mi who plays the ‘convenience store lady’ chuckled when she saw Kang Min-ah glance at Seo-yeon.
“Since we’re the same age why don’t we become friends?”
“yes?”
“You’ll be seeing this throughout this shoot right?”
Of course the reason Shin Seong-mi said this was because of her Seo-yeon’s potential.
‘This kid will definitely grow up to be big.’
Especially when this movie is released its status will change immediately.
So from Minah’s perspective this was her only chance to become close to Seoyeon.
She didn’t bother to say that it would be good to use her connections for an actor like that.
From what I have seen of her so far Minah is not an actress who likes to say things like that.
“I see.”
Kang Min-ah nodded her head.
She is an actress two years younger than herself.
It was clear that she was a similar age.
Even from Minah’s perspective she had many things she wanted to ask and learn.
She was like ‘What the hell are you thinking?’
Kang Min-ah quietly closed her eyes and swallowed her dry saliva as she looked at Seo-yeon who maintained her upright posture.
To be honest she had an aura that was difficult to approach.
Is she really worried about acting today?
Or is she so absorbed in her feelings that she is trying to shake them off?
“…I don’t think it will work today.”
You shouldn’t disturb me at a time like that.
Kang Min-ah shook her head in regret.
She decided to try talking to her later when she was okay.
And just like Kang Min-ah thought Seo-yeon was in deep trouble of her own.
‘What should I do with my 400 million won?’
A truly important concern.
This role of Cha Seo-ah is like the role of a lifetime for Seo-yeon.
Of course she was confident and had a good idea of how she would appear to the audience.
‘There were no restrictions on roles in the contract…’
Sometimes there are such contracts.
There are cases where restrictions are placed on roles or certain entertainment shows due to the image of the product.
Fortunately the contract did not say anything like that.
However if the image of the movie was too strong it was bound to be damaged in the end.
In fact haven’t there been cases where actors have complained about being cut even though there were no such restrictions?
‘If I improve my image.’
Two things came to mind right away.
Since this is a cosmetics advertisement it would be better to emphasize femininity.
There was one such drama and one movie.
‘But I’ll postpone the movie since <The Chaser> will be released first.’
The movie still has its deadline.
Even if you audition it will take time until it is released.
Then all that’s left is drama.
“Why…”
Kkeung Seoyeon crossed her arms and lowered her head.
First of all there were two things that mattered.
First the genre is a ‘youth romance’ drama.
Second it is a drama starring Park Jeong-woo.
‘Dream Future. A drama filmed with actors in their late teens and early 20s.’
It’s a really really rare youth drama.
For a youth drama the average viewership rating is over 15%.
The highest viewership rating was approximately 17.6 percent.
In terms of dramas it could be said to have ‘pretty good viewership ratings’ but if you think of youth dramas the viewership ratings could be called ‘awesome’.
The most important thing is that more than half of the teenage actors who appeared in this drama skyrocketed in class within three years. As Seo-yeon she initially considered appearing in a drama but gave up because the genre was ‘youth romance’.
Of course since it was mainly made up of teenage actors it felt a little too fresh for a romantic relationship and there were no high-level scenes.
Anyway it’s okay.
‘If I intervene…’
However Seoyeon is now in a situation where she can’t move on from saying ‘that’s a bit bad’.
There weren’t many options left for Seoyeon who was in a state of needing to be saved.
‘Anyway there aren’t that many romantic scenes in that station so it’ll be okay.’
Even the male lead is Park Jeong-woo.
Of course there was a separate main heroine so there was no problem.
Anyway the role Seoyeon was participating in was cute like a mascot.
A cute mascot the opposite of a ‘murderer’.
Even if the impact cannot be completely erased it may be able to offset it to some extent.
‘That should be enough.’
I even remember that the actor who played that role did a great job filming a few commercials even though he was criticized for his acting.
Of course that was the end.
‘Romance a little later.’
At least not yet.
I don’t know when but at least for now.
***
Yeonhwa High School School Festival.
It is said to be such a large event that invitations are given to outsiders.
Depending on performance additional rewards may be given later.
As a result there were many students who actively participated.
‘…I’ll have to audition first. I’m glad it happened to be a day without filming. If there was an overlap I would have had to tell you in advance.’
Of course this has nothing to do with Seoyeon.
Today again Seoyeon sat in the isolated seat assigned to her and just thought about those things.
‘….’
Is this correct?
This is not what I thought high school life would be like.
Suddenly I felt a little depressed.
As I watched the class full of energy preparing for the festival I felt an indescribable feeling.
‘…if you actively participate in the festival.’
‘Cha Seo-ah Station’ is not the only place where image improvement is important.
Doesn’t Joo Seo-yeon need to improve her image right now?
“Hey there Seoyeon.”
At that time someone spoke to Seoyeon.
A female student wearing round glasses.
She was the class president of this class.
“huh?”
“That’s it. “I don’t think you’ve heard about our festival booth.”
Gil Da-hyeon the class president swallowed dry saliva.
There was something about Seoyeon’s eyes staring at her that overwhelmed her opponent.
As class president Dahyun who only studied hard she felt quite burdened.
‘I understand why everyone has been avoiding talking.’
I heard she was an actress.
The shock shown in the previous <Looking Back at Past Memories> was so great that Dahyun still watches the reruns.
Seoyeon in the video was truly as beautiful as a flower.
And it was no different now.
However if ‘Princess Yeonhwa’ was a flower Seoyeon was like a blade.
I thought this is what happens when a person is so pretty.
“My class is going to run a horror booth.”
“Fear booth?”
Seoyeon sighed inwardly at those words and tilted her head.
I knew roughly how it was.
Because I saw a class that ran something similar at her previous high school.
She roughly darkens it with blackout curtains and decorates the interior in a scary way from the hallway to the classroom.
All the students dressed up in are waiting inside and surprising the visitors.
‘Honestly it wasn’t that scary.’
I just feel surprised by the atmosphere.
It didn’t really affect someone who is strong in fear.
For reference what surprised me about the game before was the jump scare.
really.
“The principal said we could use the abandoned building behind us so we decided to use it.”
“huh?”
Abandoned building?
“It’s not well maintained so I’ll check with the teacher and use it so don’t worry too much.”
“Oh yeah.”
Seoyeon nodded her head.
Are you using an entire abandoned building?
“….”
Isn’t this a high school horror booth?
Still if it were an abandoned building it would have a nice atmosphere.
I had heard of the abandoned building at Yeonhwa High School.
An empty teacher that I used a long time ago.
There was no particular accident but the building was naturally left behind as a new building was built and the number of students decreased.
‘The atmosphere must be certain.’
Rather I liked the idea of using an empty teacher.
As Seoyeon shook her head the class president turned to the students and spoke.
“There is one vacant ghost role. “Who wants to do it?”
“Ghost station? where?”
“Ah in the old science room on the second floor.”
“ah….”
The students showed very subtle reactions.
Seoyeon pretended not to listen opened the book she wasn’t looking at and listened.
“Is there anyone who can do it? “The kid who was supposed to do it before suddenly said he didn’t want to do it.”
“Well I guess so.”
“But it’s still an important part right? “I decided to make that a highlight…”
The students trailed off.
Seoyeon thought for a moment.
Apparently one ghost station is empty.
‘….’
Seoyeon’s head turned quickly.
If she participates naturally here wouldn’t she have a chance to become friends with other kids?
“I.”
When Seoyeon opened her mouth everyone’s eyes moved at once.
Seoyeon flinched for a moment at the look of shock on their faces.
What did I say wrong?
No I haven’t said anything yet.
“…is it okay if I do it if there is no ghost role?”
“huh? really?”
Everyone’s eyes crossed at Seoyeon’s sudden words.
A ghost role played by an active actress.
And considering Seoyeon’s appearance…
“But are you really okay? There aren’t many other kids on the second floor so it can be a bit scary when waiting. “Everything will be covered with blackout curtains.”
Seoyeon nodded her head at the class leader’s words.
Isn’t this a high school horror booth that operates during the day?
Honestly there’s no way I’m scared.
In this case the only thing that usually surprises me is the atmosphere.
“are you okay.”
Seoyeon spoke confidently.
At her words the class president slowly nodded her head.
It didn’t matter to her as long as she did it herself.
More than anything I was secretly looking forward to her performance as Seo-yeon’s ghost.
If a working actress would play her ghost.
‘This might get a better response than I thought.’
If we perform well at this festival good words will be written in the school records.
The class president was filled with her motivation.
Of course that wasn’t Seoyeon’s intention.
