Chapter 2343
Severin just smiled gently when he saw Callie’s deeply skeptical expression.
“How are your injuries? Are they serious?” he asked. He then swiftly took out two healing pills from his spatial ring and tossed them to Callie.
Fortunately, the Burke disciples were not very strong, so Severin was able to kill them easily. Otherwise, judging by Callie’s condition, she might not have made it out alive.
Severin did not particularly care whether Callie lived or died. Even though Callie was gorgeous and a member of the Marvair Sect, Severin was immune to the allure of her beauty after spending a considerable amount of time around his many wives.
Severin’s focus was solely on the treasure map that had caught the attention of the Burke disciples.
Callie snapped out of her daze at the sound of Severin’s magnetic and gentle voice. She took a deep breath, and her emerald eyes flashed as they locked onto Severin.
She accepted the healing pills and said thankfully, “Thank you, Severin, for saving me. I’ll forever remember your act of kindness towards me.”
She might have been dead by then if it were not for Severin’s intervention. Hunted all the way, she found herself in a desperate situation.
Just a moment ago, she had even prepared to self-destruct to take the other two down with her. However, Severin’s sudden rescue rekindled a spark of hope in her heart.
Severin dismissed Callie’s expression of gratitude, and asked bluntly, “Why were you being chased by the Burkes? Surely there’s some valuable treasure involved?”
Callie’s expression froze. She had assumed that Severin had helped her due to their shared status as Southsky cultivators or, perhaps, attracted by her looks in a typical hero-saving-the-damsel-in- distress scenario.
‘Don’t tell me he knows about the treasure map as well!’ she thought with shock.
She felt as if an invisible pair of hands had grabbed her heart, making her somewhat uneasy.
‘Sh*t. I’ve barely escaped from the Burkes with my life, and now I have to deal with Severin?’
Her expression kept changing, as if she were going through an internal struggle. Was she really going to lose the treasure map she had worked so hard to protect?
Even though Severin had saved her, Callie was not willing to give up the treasure map. After all, she risked her life to make sure it did not fall into the hands of the Burke disciples.
Observing Callie’s unease, Severin did not immediately press her to hand over the treasure map. He smiled, attempting to reassure her, and then spoke, “Why don’t you take the healing pills first? It’s likely that the Burkes had sent someone else after you since the two had fallen. It might be harder for us to escape later if we don’t leave now.”
The Burke clan was not a minor sect. They were one of the Eight Great Clans of the Eastern Wilderness, boasting formidable influence and a history that included an immortal ancestor.
Once disciples of these major clans fell, they would transmit the information to their nearby kin. Judging by Callie’s conversation with Hector, Severin knew the treasure map she had on her was very important to the Burke clan, and they would undoubtedly not give up easily. Thus, it was safe to assume they would definitely send more of their disciples to hunt her down.
Callie, who had been reveling in the relief of escaping death, instantly snapped back to reality at the mention of the pursuers.
Her expression changed drastically. She was well aware that it was not the time for conversation.
